Salifou Modi (; born 12 October 1962) is a Nigerien Army divisional general who is the vice-president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the military junta of Niger. He served as the Chief of staff of the Armed Forces of Niger from 2020 to 2023.[1] On 1 June 2023, he was appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.[2] Following the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état,[3] Modi was named as vice-president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the official name for the military junta.[4]
Modi served as a member of the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy from 2010 to 2011[5] and later became the military attaché for Niger in Germany until 2020 when he replaced Corps-General Ahmed Mohamed as Chief of Staff. His appointment came after a deadly attack by extremists that killed 89 Nigerien soldiers.[6]
Following the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état, he was identified as the vice-president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland.[7] On 10 August, he was named as minister of defense in the cabinet of Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine.[8]
