Variant:Shaha, Sahu (obsolete)
Footnotes:[1]

Saha or Shaha (Bengali: সাহা) is a Bengali surname most commonly found among the Bengali Hindus in the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, and in Bangladesh.[2]

In the Pala domain a number of inscriptions from the Pala period mentioning communities of merchants have been found, some of which use the title sāhu (the earlier form of the word) for a merchant family.[3] The word originated from Sanskrit sādhu, which, among many other meanings, refers to a merchant or trader.
