The Royal Brunei Police Force, RBPF (Malay: '''Polis Diraja Brunei''' (PDB) is in charge of keeping law and order in Brunei. The RBPF has been one of the 190 members of INTERPOL, an intergovernmental organisation worldwide since 1984.

With a force of more than 4,400 officers, the RBPF is responsible for keeping law and order and providing law enforcement services. The mandate for the RBPF in keeping the law in the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam includes the prevention, detection and investigation of crime, collection of criminal intelligence, traffic control, escort duties (VIPs, cash, prisoners), sea and border patrol, public order, riot as well as public event control.[1]

History

Secondment of Police officers & personnel from the Straits Settlements.
Insp. S.G Crummy was appointed as CPO.
Ch/Insp. G.C. Mc Afee took over as CPO.
Brunei Police Force Enactment was passed.
Police duties were expanded to cover fire services, prisons, immigration, registration of motor-vehicles, issuing of driving licences, and miscellaneous licences, registration of aliens etc.
Brunei Police Force were placed under the Japanese Military Administration.
1950 Police HQ was moved to Kuala Belait and the CPO was answerable to CP Sarawak.
CID was established.
Brunei Police Force established its own Training Centre at Seria.
The Royal Brunei Police Force Band was set up with its first director of music, R.E.House.
Immigration Department was established.
The Constitution of Brunei required the Sultanate to have its own Commissioner of Police.
1960 Land Transport Department was established.
Reserve Unit was established to replace Sarawak Field Force Platoon.
Brunei Police Force involved in defending the country against rebellion caused by the People's Party.
HM Sultan Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien III formally presented the Brunei Police Force with the Police Colour.
Police Training Center was established at Jalan Aman, Berakas.
1971 The RBPF Golden Jubilee was celebrated.
The old police colour was replaced in a solemn Presentation of Colours ceremony by HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah with the new Police Colour.
1974 Prince Mohamed Bolkiah appointed as the Honorary Commissioner of Police.
Women's Police Contingent was established.
1975 HM The Sultan consented to appoint Princess Masna as the "Commandant of Women Police" and Hajjah Nor'ain as the "Deputy Commandant of Women Police".
First Bumiputera officer, Jaya Rajid, promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police.
Became member of INTERPOL on 4 September and ASEANAPOL.
Participated in UNTAC mission in Cambodia.
1993 Participated in COMSA mission in South Africa.
Special Branch was disbanded and three-fourths of the personnel were absorbed into the newly formed Internal Security Department.
RBPF reorganised its administrative structure.
RBPF celebrated its Diamond Jubilee.
Created additional Police District known as Jerudong Police District and upgraded its Traffic Division into Traffic Department.

Logistics Department roles & responsibilities:

i) To ensure sufficient needs for the team.

ii) To protect the assets of the team.

iii) To provide technical assistance.

iv) To prepare the Country's Development Plan Project.

v) To prepare the Annual Budget.

3. Criminal Intelligence Department[4]

Functions and Roles:

i) To provide timely and accurate criminal intelligence.

ii) To provide crime statistics and daily crime report.

iii) To prepare threat assessments and intelligence reports among others on crime situation, national events, state visits by VVIPs and many more.

iv) To monitor and analyse local and international affairs which may pose a security threat to the country.

5. Operations Department[6]

The Operations Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force is responsible on all aspects of operations in the areas of security and control aside from playing the role of enforcing the laws of the nation.6. Traffic Control and Investigation Department[7]

The roles of this department are quite diverse, among them are:

i) To investigate and charge road traffic offenders.

ii) To conduct operations and road enforcements.

iii) To provide required assistance to road users while patrolling.

iv) To conduct road safety campaign and awareness programmes.

v) To provide motorcycle escort and other escort services to local and foreign VVIP.
