Roy Iddan (Hebrew: רועי עידן; born on March 11, 1978) is an Israeli screenwriter and television actor. Winner of the Awards of the Israeli Television Academy for 2020.[1] [2]
Iddan was born and raised in Haifa, to Irit and Dr. Gavriel Iddan, an entrepreneur and inventor, one of the founders of "Given Imaging". He studied at the Reali School in Haifa.
Iddan began his military service in the Artillery Corps. He completed an intelligence officers course and served as an intelligence officer. In the reserves, he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.[3]
In 2005, he graduated with honors in Animation from "Bezalel" and in 2007 received a Master's degree in Animation from Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. He served for several years as a lecturer in storyboard and animation direction at Sapir College and Shenkar College.[4]
Iddan is a screenwriter, actor, and presenter. Formerly a board member of the Israeli Screenwriters Guild. He created and wrote several Israeli TV series, including the youth series "Kfula" starring Noa Kirel, Shalom Asayag, and Ofer Shechter; "Crime Animals" starring Maor Cohen, Gal Zaid, and Yuval Semo; "Punch" starring Tzachi Grad, and Dar Zuzovsky; and "Lost in Asia" starring Rotem Sela, Idan Rafael Haviv, Maayan Bloom, and Tzachi Grad, which won the Israeli Academy Award for Best Mini Drama Series for 2013.
Iddan is also the creator of the comedy series "It's Not the Age" starring Miri Mesika, Rami Heuberger, and Rivka Michaeli, and wrote the series in collaboration with the screenwriter Raz Yosef. He also served as the lead designer on the series "DJ & the Fro," which aired on MTV United States in 2009. He presented a satire segment called "Introduction to Economics with Roy Idan" on the show "Hayom SheHaya" hosted by Guy Zohar.[5]
In 2018, he participated with his wife in the third season of the reality show "Come Dine with Me" which aired on Kan 11. In 2020, he created the thriller series "Manayek," which airs on Kan 11, directed by Alon Zingman. Iddan got the idea for the series while volunteering as a patrol officer in the Tel Aviv police station. In addition, Idan appears in the series in a guest appearance. The series won the Academy Award for Best Drama Series for 2020. Idan won the Israeli Academy Award for Television for the screenplay of a drama series, for the year 2020. In January 2023, he began to regularly participate in the satirical hosting program "Whatever You Say" on Kan 11.[6]
In 2016, he wrote the screenplay for the film "Four by Four," directed by Shai Kanot and starring Oshri Cohen, Oz Zehavi, Eliana Tidhar, and Shlomi Koriat.[7]
Idan created music videos for Aya Korem[8] and the band Girafot.[9]
Idan wrote a political-satirical commentary columns on the Nrg website.[10] He previously served as a commentator on Galei Tzahal's morning journal and on the "Central Headquarters" program on Channel 10. He broadcast once a week on Erel Segal's program on 103fm until July 2020.[11]
Until 2021, he was among the presenters of the segment "Gaps of Others" on the program "The Other Side with Guy Zohar" on Kan 11 channel. He broadcast a weekly program on Radio Galey Israel on Thursdays together with Itamar Fleishman.
In 2013, he managed the "Ale Yarok - The Liberal List" campaign and was even placed on the list that ran for the Knesset,[12] and in 2015 served as the screenwriter for the Likud campaign in the elections held that year. In both 2019 election rounds, he served as a screenwriter and creative in the Kachol Lavan campaign.
Iddan lives in Kiryat Anavim. He is married and a father to two daughters.
