Robert Tang is a teacher based in Ottawa who teaches mathematics for grades 9 through 12 at Lisgar Collegiate Institute with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.[1] He has received the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2021.[2]
Close to the end of every school semester, Tang takes his students to Ottawa's aviation and space museum, where his students can apply what they have learned in the classroom in various challenges related to aerospace.[3] [4] In some missions, some groups of students would act as pilots, while other groups would conduct other calculations to complete the summative mission assessments.
Tang also has a partnership with Carleton University, to which he brought his students in 2014 to teach them how to apply math principles to real-world scenarios, like model racing cars.[5] [6]
In 2021, Tang was awarded a Certificate of Achievement as part of the Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence for providing "context to the projects and [taking] math down from the ether to events and experiences of actual life".[7]
