Robert Sauzet (December 1927 – 12 February 2023) was a French historian.[1]

Biography

Born in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort in December 1927, Sauzet spent his childhood in Saint-Martial.[2] After his secondary school studies at the, he earned a degree in history from the University of Montpellier in 1955.[3] In 1976, he defended his doctoral thesis,[4] titled Contre-Réforme et Réforme catholique en Bas-Languedoc : le diocèse de Nîmes au xviie siècle.[5]

Sauzet became a professor of history at the University of Tours and served as director of the from 1985 to 1991. He was elected a non-resident member of the in 1994.[6] In 2017, he received the Médaille du .[7]

After his marriage to Madeleine Bouillie, he had three sons, including linguist .[8] Robert Sauzet died on 12 February 2023, at the age of 95.[9]
