Rémy Weber, born November 18, 1957, in Strasbourg, is a French banker and business leader. He was notably CEO of La Banque Postale from 2013 to 2020.[1]
Rémy Weber (real name Raymond Ernest Weber) graduated from Sciences Po Aix in 1979 and from HEC Paris in 1982.[2]
Rémy Weber began his career at Banque française du commerce extérieur (BFCE) in 1983. He joined the administration in 1987 as a project manager in the International Affairs department of the Treasury Department, before returning to BFCE in 1990 as deputy director in charge of investment operations and mergers and acquisitions.[3]
In 1993, he joined Lyonnaise de Banque, then a subsidiary of Crédit Industriel et Commercial, where he was successively regional director, general secretary in 1994, chief operating officer in 1996, deputy general director in 1997, then general director in 1999.
In 2002, Rémy Weber became chairman and CEO of CIC-Lyonnaise de Banque, member of the CIC Group's management board from 2002 to 2010, then member of the CIC Group's executive committee, which replaced the management board.[4]
On October 15, 2013, Rémy Weber became CEO of La Banque Postale. He was also Deputy CEO of the La Poste group and a member of the executive committee. Seven years later, on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, La Banque Postale announced in a press release that Rémy Weber was leaving the chairman of the executive board on August 3, 2020; "He would have liked to have exercised the function [of head of CNP Assurances] himself, in addition to his position as Chairman of the Executive Board of the bank. He was not successful."[5]
On July 22, 2020, Rémy Weber left the chairman of the executive board of La Banque Postale due to a "difference of opinion". The disagreement reportedly concerned the governance of CNP Assurances, acquired by La Banque Postale in March of the same year.[6]
Rémy Weber is a knight of the Legion of Honour and a knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
