Borneo Football Club Samarinda (commonly known as Borneo Samarinda or just Borneo) is an Indonesian football club based in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The team currently competes in Liga 1. The club's nickname is Pesut Etam (Our Dolphins).[1]
Borneo Samarinda has won one Liga 1 league title, one Liga 2 league title and 2 Piala Presiden in the club history.
Borneo Samarinda was formed by former Putra Samarinda supporters who were dissatisfied with their team's lack of achievements.[2] PT Sugar Group Companies bought Perseba Super Bangkalan on 7 March 2014, which gave them direct license to compete in the 2014 Liga Indonesia Premier Division, and changed the name to Pusamania Borneo Football Club.[3] [4]
After beating PSGC Ciamis on penalties in the 2014 Liga Indonesia Premier Division semi-final, they were promoted to the Indonesia Super League.[5] On 27 November 2014, Borneo FC won their first title by becoming champion of the 2014 Liga Indonesia Premier Division after beating Persiwa Wamena 2–1 in the final.[6]
Borneo Samarinda will compete in the 2024–25 ASEAN Club Championship which is their first participation in a region tournament.
Borneo Samarinda's supporters are called Pusamania.
Derby Kaltim (East Borneo Derby)
The match of Borneo Samarinda against Persiba Balikpapan is called "Derby Kaltim", because Samarinda (city home of Borneo Samarinda) and Balikpapan (city home of Persiba Balikpapan) are the same as cities in East Kalimantan Province.
Derby Papadaan
The match of Borneo Samarinda against Barito Putera FC is called "Derby Papadaan" or The Brother's Derby.
Derby Mahakam
The match of Borneo Samarinda against Mitra Kukar FC is called "Derby Mahakam", because Samarinda city home of Borneo Samarinda, and Tenggarong city home of Mitra Kukar FC, are same followed by the Mahakam river.
Suzuki signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Borneo Samarinda on 22 April 2014.[7] On 2 May 2014, Bankaltim became their shirt sponsor for home and away matches.[8]
