Puerto Rico statistical areas explained

The currently has 13 statistical areas that have been delineated by the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB). On July 21, 2023, the OMB delineated three combined statistical areas, six metropolitan statistical areas, and four micropolitan statistical areas in .[1] As of 2023, the largest of these is the San Juan-Bayamón, PR CSA, comprising the area around San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital and largest city.

Primary statistical areas

Primary statistical areas (PSAs) include all combined statistical areas and any core-based statistical area that is not a constituent of a combined statistical area. Of the 13 statistical areas of Puerto Rico, three are PSAs comprising its three combined statistical areas.
