Princess Dina Mired (born Dina Mohammad Khalifeh on 12 October 1965) is a Jordanian royal and global health advocate[1] particularly in the field of cancer control and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). She was the President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), from 2018 to 2020 and is the former Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation.[2]

In September 2011, she was elected to deliver the keynote speech at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly's first high-level meeting on non-communicable diseases. In September 2018, Princess Dina was chosen to speak at the third high-level meeting on NCDs.[3]

Education

Princess Dina holds a BSc in Accounting and Financial Analysis from Warwick University, England (1985–1988), and an MSc from Reading University, England (1991).[4]

Career

Princess Dina was elected president of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in 2018, the largest global cancer-fighting organization. The first Arab to have been appointed, she held the post from 2018 to 2020.[5] [6] [7]

Prior to her presidency at UICC, Princess Dina served as a Member of the UICC Presidential Advisory Panel, and as an Ambassador of the UICC World Cancer Declaration Ambassadors Program.

Princess Dina was the Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) from 2002 until June 2016.[8] She focused on research, development, advocacy, cancer coverage, patient support, and public awareness on early detection and prevention.[9] [10] [11] [12]

Local and Global Advocacy for Cancer Control

Princess Dina served as the Honorary Chairperson of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP), from 2006 till date, JBCP remains the most successful national early detection and screening program, saving the lives of thousands of women.[13] [14] [15] [16]

Princess Dina advocates against tobacco, both in Jordan and globally.[17] [18] [19] [20] [21]

Personal life

Dina married Prince Mired bin Ra'ad, the son of Prince Ra'ad bin Zeid and Princess Majda Ra'ad.[45] They have three children:

After her first son, Prince Rakan bin Mired, was diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, Dina was inspired to advocate for cancer research, control, and prevention.[47]
