Prakash Man Singh Raut (Nepali: प्रकाशमानसिंह राउत) (born 31 March 1961) is the current Chief Justice of Nepal. He was appointed as the chief justice by Ram Chandra Poudel, President of Nepal.[1] [2] Raut was appointed as the Chief Justice following the retirement of his predecessor, Chief Justice Bishawambhar Prasad Shrestha, on October 4.[3]
Justice Raut was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice of Nepal on August 1, 2016, by the President. [4] He graduated in law from Nepal Law Campus, Tribhuvan University.[5] He is said to be expert senior advocate especially in civil, criminal, constitutional cases and writs. From 1983 to 2016, he worked as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of Nepal. Justice Raut also worked as a legal advisor for many public and private organizations. He coordinated the Constitutional Committee in the Nepal Bar Association and was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 2006..[6]
