Prakash Alex is an Indian music composer and singer who has been associated with South Indian movies.[1] He made his debut as a music director with the 2018 movie Kalyanam.[2] [3]
Prakash Alex was born to Reverend K. P. Alexander and school teacher Leelamma in Pathanamthitta. He has an elder brother, Prasanth Alexander, an actor in the Malayalam film industry, and two elder sisters, Priya and Preethy.[4]
He started playing the piano from class five without any formal training; his sister Preethy taught him the basics. Initially, his parents wanted him to join the priesthood, but he wished to pursue music. Prakash was part of the choir team in his church. He later joined a multimedia course at St. Joseph College of Communication, and started making music videos.
He has been active in the South Indian movie music composing field for the past 15 years, working in multiple languages like Malayalam, Tamil, and Marathi. He started programming and song production for albums, devotionals, and short films from 2005. He began his career in the Malayalam industry as a music programmer for Siddarth Siva’s short film Amour Code in 2006.
Prakash also worked as a music programmer/producer with eminent musicians like Poly Varghese, Stephen Devassy, Rajamani, Vidyasagar, Mani Sharma, S. Thaman, HipHop Tamizha, Arjun Janya, Gopi Sunder, Jakes Bejoy, Hariharan and Lesle Lewis, Gurukiran, Alphonse Joseph, Alex Paul, Berny Ignatius, Bijibal, Deepak Dev, Mejo Joseph, and others.[5] One of his notable works as a music producer includes the production of the song "Nenchodu Cherthu (Yuvvh)", which was a tremendous hit.[6] [7]
His first movie as a music director was Kalyanam (2018).[8] His recent movie was Qalb (2024). His songs "Ektha Boss" from Shylock featuring Unni Mukundan,[9] "Monjathi" from Qalb, and "Dhrithangapulakithan" featuring Dulquer Salmaan from Kalyanam were very well received.[10]
Prakash is married to Renu. He composed their wedding video song himself. The couple currently resides in Ernakulam.
