Pouteria dominigensis explained
Pouteria dominigensis is a species of plant in the family Sapotaceae. It is native to Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), the Bahamas, and Florida. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Two subspecies are accepted:
- Pouteria dominigensis subsp. cuprea (synonym Lucuma cuprea) – native to Hispaniola
- Pouteria dominigensis subsp. dominigensis (synonyms include Pouteria moaensis) – native to Cuba, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, and Florida. As Pouteria moaensis it is listed by the IUCN as an endangered species endemic to Cuba.
