Phoenixes (fr|Phénix) is a Canadian drama film, directed by Jonathan Beaulieu-Cyr and released in 2024.[1] Set in the 2000s, the film stars Maxime Genois as Joël, a soldier in the Canadian military who takes on a role coaching his son Jacob's (Aksel Leblanc) soccer team in a bid to bond with his son before he is deployed to the War in Afghanistan later in the year.[2]

The cast also includes Evelyne Brochu as Joël's wife and Jacob's mother Michelle, as well as Alexandre Landry and Rosemarie Sabor in supporting roles.

Production

Beaulieu-Cyr wrote the screenplay based in part on his own experiences as the son of a soldier who fought in Afghanistan.[3]

The film was shot in fall 2023, in and around Quebec City.[4]

Distribution

The film premiered on September 13, 2024, at the Quebec City Film Festival,[5] and is slated to screen in the Borsos Competition at the 2024 Whistler Film Festival,[6] prior to going into commercial release in 2025.[1]
