Petitella Explained
Petitella is a genus of freshwater fish in the family Characidae of the order Characiformes.
They are all popular tropical fish in the aquarium hobby. They are commonly known as Rummy-nose tetras.
Taxonomy and systematics
This genus was formerly monotypic, featuring only P. georgiae. The other two species were allocated to Hemigrammus. Before the reallocation in 2020,[1] [2] they were distinguished by the following common names:
- P. bleheri - Brilliant rummy-nose tetra, or Firehead tetra
- P. georgiae - False rummy-nose tetra
- P. rhodostoma - Rummy-nose tetra
