"People Still Show Up" is a song by American singer-songwriter Maren Morris. It was released on October 25, 2024, through Columbia Records, as the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album. Morris wrote the song with Laura Veltz and Jack Antonoff, while Antonoff produced it.[1] Musically, "People Still Show Up" is an Funk and Alternative song. Lyrically, the song talks about people's reactions from the aftermath of her controversial and highly covered exit from the Country music industry.[2] “People Still Show Up” is Morris’ first new song since her contributions to the soundtrack of the animated film, The Wild Robot, with the original songs “Kiss the Sky” and “Even When I’m Not.”[3]
"People Still Show Up" was released on October 25, 2024. Morris announced the song on October 22.[4] The date of release received media coverage after Morris' ex-husband Ryan Hurd was also dropping his comeback single that day.[5] [6] [7] An accompanying lyric video was released with song.[8]
The song was written by Morris with Jack Antonoff and Laura Veltz in early 2023. It marks Morris and Antonoff second collaboration, since the 2023 track "Get the Hell Out of Here",[9] meanwhile Veltz and Morris had worked several times in the past. The production which was held by Antonoff, draws inspiration from the 1970s. Morris said in a statement about the song:
"People Still Show Up" received positive reviews.[10] [11] Emily Zemler of Rolling Stone dubbed the track as a "celebration of positivity." Jon Stickler praised its production and Morris' vocal performance, describing it as a "minimal, slow-build alternative-pop" that showcase "Morris' vocals weaving in and out of drum and bass-driven production"[12]
