Pende (Phende) is a Bantu language of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Giphende is spoken in Kwilu Province, in Gungu and Idiofa districts. The Bapende used to call themselves Akwa Nzumba (in Kasai), Akwa Thunda (in Gungu), or Akwa Mbongo (in Idiofa).
