Patrick Sergeant Explained

Sir Patrick John Rushton Sergeant (17 March 1924 – 18 September 2024) was a British journalist, investor and businessman who was the founder of Euromoney Institutional Investor. Previously, he served as the City Editor of the Daily Mail from 1960 to 1984.^[1]

Early life and education

Patrick Sergeant was born on 17 March 1924 in King's Down, Kent.^[2] He attended Beaumont College.^[2]

Career

Sergeant served in Royal Navy before joining Mullens & Co.^[2]

In 1948, he joined News Chronicle as a reporter.^[2] From 1960 to 1984, he was the City Editor of the Daily Mail.^[2] Later, he served as a director of Daily Mail and General Trust Plc from 1992 to 2004.^[3]

He announced his retirement from the board of Euromoney in 2018.^[4]

Personal life and death

Sergeant lived in The Grove, Highgate from 1961.^{[5] [6]}

His daughter, Emma Sergeant (born 1959), is an artist^[7] and is married to Adam Zamoyski.

Sergeant turned 100 on 17 March 2024, and died on 18 September.^[8]
