Passacaglia (Webern) Explained

The Passacaglia for orchestra, Opus 1, from 1908, is the first published composition of twentieth century Austrian composer Anton Webern. It is based on the passacaglias of 17th century music, in which the bass part is a constantly repeating pattern a few bars long, and the upper parts are a set of variations each of which incorporates that bass part.[1]
