Padatik is an upcoming Indian Bengali language biographical drama film written, directed and edited by Srijit Mukherji. The film focuses on Mrinal Sen's active lifetime and his contribution in the Bengali Cinema.[1] [2] The film will hit the theatres on 15 August 2024, India's Independence Day.[3]
Mrinal Sen's journey from his struggling early days as an idealistic filmmaker during India's independence to his pivotal role in the Indian New Wave cinema movement in 1950s Calcutta, working alongside Satyajit Ray.
Initially, Srijit decided to make a biopic on Mrinal Sen in the form of a web series, but later decided to make a film after changing his mind. The shooting of Mrinal Sen's biopic 'Padatik' began on 15 January 2023 in Kolkata.[4]
