It was written by Françoise Dorin, Marc Dupré and Jean-François Breau, and produced by Tino Izzo. Despite not being released as a single, "On s'est aimé à cause" became popular on the radio in Quebec in August 2007, reaching number five on the airplay chart and number 23 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary chart. In 2018, the song reached number three on the sales chart in Quebec.

Background and release

The lyrics to "On s'est aimé à cause" were written by French novelist Françoise Dorin, while the music was composed by Canadian singer-songwriters: Marc Dupré and Jean-François Breau. The song was produced by Canadian guitarist and producer Tino Izzo. "On s'est aimé à cause" was included on D'elles and Dion performed it in May 2007, during the Canadian television special on TVA, dedicated to the release of her new album.

Commercial performance

Despite not being released as a single, "On s'est aimé à cause" became popular on the radio in Quebec. It entered the BDS airplay chart on 25 August 2007 and peaked at number six, spending 27 weeks on the chart in total.[1] On the ADISQ airplay chart in Quebec, it peaked at number five. "On s'est aimé à cause" also entered the Billboards Canadian Adult Contemporary chart in September 2007, reaching number 23 and spending 16 weeks there in total. D'elles also includes another version of "On s'est aimé à cause," titled "A cause" (meaning "because"). The lyrics written by Françoise Dorin were modified to fit the danceable arrangement of the song. The music was composed by Jacques Veneruso, who also produced the track with Thierry Blanchard. Dion performed "A cause" in France in May 2007, during the television special on TF1, dedicated to the release of her new album.

Background and release

On 22 January 2008, it was announced that Dion will promote a remix of "A cause" as the next single from D'elles in France.[5] It was also expected that she will perform it on the Star Academy on 25 January 2008.[5] However instead, Dion performed "Alone" from her new English-language album, Taking Chances. On 7 February 2008, it was revealed that on the same day, the media received two envelopes with promotional singles, one with "A cause", and the other with "Alone".[6]

"A cause" was remixed by the French producer DJ Rien aka Luc Bruaud.[6] The promotional single includes the album version of "A cause", the radio edit, which is a remix by DJ Rien, and "Alone" as the third track.[7] A longer version of the remix, lasting three minutes and 41 seconds was posted by DJ Rien on his Myspace page at the same time.[8]
