The October 2024 United Kingdom budget will be delivered to the House of Commons by Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on 30 October 2024. It will be the first budget presented by Reeves during her tenure as Chancellor, and the first Labour budget since Keir Starmer led the Labour to victory in the 2024 general election. It will also be the first Labour budget since March 2010,[1] and the first budget to be announced by a female chancellor.[2]
The Labour Party won a landslide victory in the 2024 general election, with Keir Starmer becoming Prime Minister and Rachel Reeves becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer. On 8 July 2024, Reeves gave her first statement as Chancellor, during which she revealed that the budget would be held later in the year, with a date to be confirmed.[3] [4] On 29 July, Reeves confirmed 30 October as the date for the budget.[5]
