Nishi-Hamada Station is served by the JR West San'in Main Line, and is located 478.7 kilometers from the terminus of the line at . Only local trains stop at this station.
The station consists of two opposed side platforms, connected by a footbridge. The platforms are not parallel. The station is unattended.
Nishi-Hamada Station was opened on 10 March 1922 as . It was renamed 15 December 1949 . Freight operations were discontinued on 7 November 1982. With the privatization of the Japan National Railway (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan railway Company (JR West).
In fiscal 2020, the station was used by an average of 141 passengers daily.[2]
