Night of the Zoopocalypse (originally titled as Night of the Zoombies) is a 2024 animated Canadian-Belgium-French comedy horror film directed by storyboard artists Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro, written by James Kee and producer Steven Hoban, and inspired by a concept by Clive Barker. The film follows a group of animal survivors in a zoo where a meteor virus turns various zoo creatures into slobbering mutant zombies.

It premiered at the 57th Sitges Film Festival on October 7, 2024 and will release in the United States and Canada by Viva Pictures and Elevation Pictures on March 7, 2025.[1]

Premise

A meteor containing a mysterious space virus crashes into Colepepper Zoo turning the animals into vicious gummi-like zombie mutants.

Animation and design

Animation for the film is provided by L'Atelier Animation and Mac Guff, while storyboard and pre-production was provided at House of Cool. Tangent Animation was originally involved back in 2021 under Night of the Zoombies, but due to the shutdown of the studio, L'Atelier took its place. For cost-productive measures, some of the animals don't have real textured fur. They sometimes have very stylized fur that helped with the other-worldly look. For the zombie mutant animals of the zoo, they were given a gummy-like texture with no fur and given a super cartoony look with classic rubberhose animation without showing any blood or bones when limbs are dismembered in a PG rating family film. To maintain the horror aspect of the film, the team used clever lighting and fog to fit the low-budget horror films while creating the atmosphere of the world.[3]

Music

I Lost My Body composer Dan Levy was assigned to compose the score for the film.[4]
