Nga Lee Ng is the Love Family Professor[1] at the Georgia Institute of Technology, holding appointments in both the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.[2] [3] Her research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, particularly in the study of organic aerosols and their effects on air quality, climate, and human health.[4] [5] [6] [7]

Education and early career

Ng earned her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2002.[8] She was an exchange student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota[7] from 2000 to 2001. She then pursued her graduate studies at the California Institute of Technology, where she completed her M.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2004 and her Ph.D. in 2007 under the supervision of John H. Seinfeld and Richard C. Flagan.[9]

Following her Ph.D., Ng worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology (2007-2008) and then as a postdoctoral scientist at Aerodyne Research (2008-2010). She continued at Aerodyne Research as a senior scientist from 2010 to 2011.[10]

Research and career

Ng joined the Georgia Tech faculty in 2011.[1] Her research focuses on the chemistry of atmospheric aerosols, including their formation, transformation, and impacts.[2] [7] [11] Her work has provided insights into the role of organic aerosols in air quality and climate change.[12] She employs advanced analytical techniques and modeling approaches to study the sources, processes, and effects of particulate matter and other air pollutants.[3] She was the lead principal investigator on a $12M National Science Foundation (NSF) grant awarded in 2021 to establish the Atmospheric Science and Chemistry mEasurement NeTwork (ASCENT), which aims to collect real-time measurements of atmospheric particulates' chemical composition and properties at 12 different sites around the United States.[13] [14] She received a Love Family endowed professorship at Georgia Tech in 2022.[1]

Ng has held several editorial positions, including Editor-in-Chief of ACS Environmental Science & Technology Air since 2023,[4] [15] and she has served on the ACS Earth and Space Chemistry[16] and Scientific Reports[17] editorial boards.
