Nettspend (born March 18, 2007) is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Richmond, Virginia. He is also an affiliate of the underground rap collectives Novagang and 1c34. His music has been described as "post-post-rage" by The New York Times.

He started making music in the fifth grade, growing up listening to Future, Michael Jackson and Justin Bieber.[2] His song "Shine N Peace" was listed among The New York Times best songs of 2023.

Career

Nettspend released his first song on SoundCloud on October 11, 2022, titled "#nemk".

On May 26, 2023, he released a mixtape titled "Kickdoor", and a deluxe EP titled "Kickdoor ++++" on June 8. On September 10, a snippet of "Drankdrankdrank" went viral on Twitter, exposing him to a wider audience.[3]

On January 11, 2024, he released a single titled "40" with Surf Gang producer Evilgiane and Xaviersobased, with a DJ Ess remix on March 15. On March 16, Nettspend performed at Rolling Loud for the first time.[4] [5] [6]

In June 2024, Nettspend embarked on a 4 city tour, named "Let's Create Art", going to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago & London.[7]

Removal of songs from streaming platforms

On July 8, 2024, Nettspend released "That One Song", a song sampling "Entombed" by Deftones, after teasing it at multiple live shows. Two days later, on July 10, the song was removed from all streaming services after a DMCA takedown request from Warner Music Group due to the sample not being cleared.[8] [9] Shortly afterwards, the song "Nothing Like Uuu" was also removed following a DMCA takedown request, due to it sampling "Boo'd Up" by Ella Mai. The song was put back on streaming platforms in August.

In August 2024, several of Nettspend's songs, including his most popular tracks such as "We Not Like You", "Shine N Peace", "Drankdrankdrank", and "2024 Freestyle", were removed from Spotify. The songs were reuploaded on August 21, following Nettspend's signing to Virgin Music Group.
