Natalbany is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,739 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Hammond MSA.

Etymology

The community is named after the nearby Natalbany River. It is speculated that the name of the river is derived from the Choctaw words nita meaning bear and abani which means "to cook over a fire" in the Choctaw language.[2]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.5sqmi, of which 4.4sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi (1.56%) is water (including Ponchatoula Creek).
