Murad Ramazanov (Russian: Мурад Рамазанов; born October 16, 1995) is a Russian mixed martial artist, currently competes in the Welterweight division for Professional Fighters League (PFL). He has previously fought in ONE Championship, Fight Nights Global, and Gorilla Fighting Championship (now Eagle FC).

Background

Ramazanov was born on October 16, 1995, in Republic of Dagestan, Russia. He came from a close-knit, middle-class family in the capital of Makhachkala, where his father ran a successful shoe business and his mother tended to him and his siblings. With the sea and the mountains within reach, Ramazanov grew up both in the outdoors and on the streets, where he could channel his energy.[2]

Initially involved in Greco-Roman wrestling, Ramazanov ventured into MMA training around the time when Khabib Nurmagomedov gained widespread attention. Motivated by self-defense, Ramazanov attended extra classes to enhance his skills, focusing on chokeholds. Despite initially only knowing chokes from video games, he gradually applied them to real-life situations. As his abilities progressed, Ramazanov earned a place in the Nurmagomedov training room.[3]

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

After compiling an amateur record of 5–0, Ramazanov started his professional MMA career in 2014. He fought under various promotions such as Professional Fighting Championship (ProFC), Fight Nights Global (now AMC Fight Nights) and Gorilla Fighting Championship (now Eagle FC) and amassed an 8–0 record prior to his joined the ONE Championship.[4]

ONE Championship

In his promotional debut, Ramazanov faced Bae Myung Ho on February 28, 2020, at ONE: King of the Jungle.[5] He won the fight via technical knockout in the first round.[6] [7]

Ramazanov faced former ONE Welterweight World Champion Zebaztian Kadestam on December 3, 2021, and aired on December 17, 2021, at .[10] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[11]

Ramazanov was scheduled to face former ONE Middleweight World Championship challenger Ken Hasegawa on February 11, 2022, at .[12] However, Hasegawa withdrew from the bout due to an injury and the bout was scrapped.[13] [14]

Ramazanov faced Roberto Soldić on December 3, 2022, at ONE on Prime Video 5.[15] [16] During the middle of round one, Ramazanov accidentally connected with a knee to the groin of Soldić, who could not continue. The fight was declared a no contest.[17]

Professional Fighters League

On December 18, 2023, Ramazanov announced that he had signed with the PFL.[18]

Ramazanov made his debut against Laureano Staropoli on April 19, 2024 at PFL 3 (2024).[19] At weigh-ins, Laureano Staropoli came in at 175.2 lbs, 4.2 pounds over the limit for welterweight. He was fined 20% of his purse and given a point deduction in the standings.[20] He won the fight via a rear-naked choke submission in the first round.[21]

Ramazanov next faced Shamil Musaev in a rematch at PFL 6 (2024) on June 28, 2024.[22] [23] They previously fought each other on May 27, 2016, in an amateur MMA tournament semi-final in the city of Orenburg, in which Ramazanov came out as a winner. Ramazanov lost the fight via TKO in the second round.[24]
