Multishow Brazilian Music Award for Pop of the Year is an annual award presented at the Multishow Brazilian Music Award, a ceremony established in 1994 and originally called the TVZ Award. The Pop of the Year category was created in 2023 as part of a reformulation of the Multishow Award Academy's guidelines.[1] [2] Previously, the Song of the Year award encompassed various musical genres within a single category.[3] However, starting in 2023, this category was divided, giving rise to 11 new categories, each dedicated to a specific musical genre, including Brazilian pop.[4] [5]
This change aimed to recognize the diversity of genres present in Brazilian music and to provide greater space for popular styles that hold a significant presence in the country's music scene.[6] The Pop of the Year category highlights the most impactful songs within the genre, honoring artists who contribute to the evolution and popularity of pop music in Brazil.[7]
