Muhammad Riaz Shahid is a Pakistani politician who was a Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 10 October 2002 to till 3 November 2007. Previously he served as Mayor of Faisalabad during 1979 and 1982.

Shahid was born on 15 May 1942 in Hoshiarpur, India to father Ch Barkat Ali.[1] [2]

He obtained the degree of M.A. (Urdu) in 1966 from Government College, Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) and that of LL.B. in 1977 from Government Islamia College, Karachi.[3] [4] [5]

Mayor of Faisalabad

On 31 December 1979, he appointed as 1st Mayor of Faisalabad by Haji Muhammad Yaseen but unfortunately in 1981 he resigned from post, because of Yaseen. elder son Sheikh Azam Yaseen who are most famous for his famous slogan ''Tu Janta Nahi Mujhe'' In 1982 he elected again as mayor of Faisalabad.[6] [7] [8]

In 1980s Local Government Elections were are held in Faisalabad due to his resignation in 1983 again because of Sheikh Azam Yaseen, now Azam are looking strong Nazim Candidate for elections against his candidate.[9] [10] [11]

After elections, Sheikh Azam Yaseen win 5 Nazim Seats from and abandoned his another 4 seats for his Sir Syed Town Seat and become the 2nd Most Powerful Official in Faisalabad.[12] [13]

Political Career

Shahid was elected in Provincial Assembly of Punjab from PP-66 as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians he received 19,895 votes and defeat Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan received 17,779 votes.
