Montaut-les-Créneaux (in French pronounced as /mɔ̃to le kʁeno/; Occitan (post 1500);: Montaut) is a commune in the Gers department in southwestern France.

Population

History

Montaut is an old fortified village (or castelnau in Gascony. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the lords of Montaut were also barons of Corrensaguet. In 1821, Montaut absorbed most of the old parish of Biane, located in the northeast, on the edge of the commune of Mirepoix to which it was formerly attached. All that remains is the Sainte-Catherine church and a dovecote, which was part of the castle which is now ruined.[2]
