Mohammad Mahdi Mirbagheri (Persian: محمدمهدی میرباقری; born in 1961 in Qom) is an Iranian Shia cleric, ayatollah who serves as head of Qom Academy of Islamic Sciences and a member of the Assembly of Experts.[1] and representative of Semnan Province in the Assembly of Experts. He is also considered as one of the teachers of foreign jurisprudence.[2]
He is one of the theorists about the relationship between science and religion. He believes in the orientation of sciences in terms of epistemology, based on which sciences can be divided into religious and non-religious. Bagheri was elected as a representative Alborz province in the Assembly of Leadership Experts in the elections of March 2016.[3] He was elected as a representative of the Assembly of Leadership Experts from Semnan province in the elections of March 2024.[4] His name was raised as a potential candidate to be elected as the next Supreme Leader of Iran.[5] Previously his name was discussed in regards to the position of Tehran Friday Prayer leader.[6]
