Mircea Geoană, who served as Deputy Secretary General of NATO between 2019 and 2024 announced on September 11 his candidacy as an independent in the 2024 Romanian presidential election.[1]
Polled between 15% and 21% of the votes, Mircea Geoana is the first independent with a real chance of being elected president of Romania.[2]
