Microcotyle erythrini explained

Microcotyle erythrini is a species of monogenean, parasitic on the gills of a marine fish. It belongs to the family Microcotylidae. This species was described by Van Beneden & Hesse in 1863[1] and redescribed by Parona & Perugia in 1890.[2]

Hosts and localities

The type-host is Pagellus erythrinus. The type-locality is off Brest.[1] The species has been since recorded from three other hosts (Pagellus acarne,[3] [2] Boops boops[4] [5] [6] [7] and Dentex dentex[8] in several localities in the Mediterranean (Montenegro,[9] France,[4] [10] [11] Italy,[12] [2] [13] Algeria,[6] [14] [15] Spain,[16] [5] [7] [17] [18] [8] Turkey[3]) and in the Atlantic, off France[1] and off Spain[17] [18] [16]).
