Membakut is a district in the Interior Division, Sabah, Malaysia. Membakut railway station is one of the stops for Sabah State Railway.
Since October 2023, Membakut is one of the full district (daerah penuh) in Sabah, East-Malaysia. Before became a full district, It was once called Pekan Kecil Membakut or in English: Small Town of Membakut and was declared as a Small District in 1977. While the Office Building of the Small District of Membakut was completed in 1978. Now the Gazette dated 09 February 2023 has declared that Membakut has been upgraded to a full district. Since March 30, 2022, the Membakut District Launching Ceremony was held on October 14, 2023 and was completed by the Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, the 16th Chief Minister of Sabah. With the rating as a Full District, the area that used to be only 132.8 square km has increased to 1,480 square km. For district demarcation, the Membakut District covers the Lumat area up to Kayau.
