On January 22, 2008, Dorta signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Pittsburgh Pirates.[4] He spent the season with the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of Pittsburgh.[2] He became a free agent at the end of the season.[1]
