Meldal dialect explained
Meldal dialect or Meldal Norwegian is a dialect of Norwegian used in Meldal. It is a variety of Trøndersk.
Phonology
Vowels
- pronounced as //iː// is a syllabic, palatalized dental approximant pronounced as /[ð̩ʲ˕ː]/. This is realization is also found in some dialects of Swedish.[2]
- Old Norse diphthongs (ei) and (øy) are realized as long monophthongs pronounced as /link/ and pronounced as /link/. This is the case in a large part of Sør-Trøndelag in general.[2]
