Mary Shanna Croughan is an American epidemiologist and academic administrator serving as the provost and executive vice chancellor of the University of California, Davis since 2020.
Croughan earned a B.S. in community health from the University of California, Davis, and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Her 1987 dissertation was titled, Morbidity Among Breech Infants According to Method of Delivery.[1]
Croughan researches reproductive and perinatal epidemiology. She was a faculty member at UCSF School of Medicine from 1987 to 2010 where she co-directed the required course in epidemiology and biostatistics for twelve years.[2] [3] [4] From 2007 to 2009, she was vice chair and chair of the University of California's academic senate and on the Regents of the University of California. From 2010 to 2017, she served as the executive director of the research grants program office in the University of California's office of the president. From July 31, 2017, to 2019, Croughan was the vice president for research and economic development at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.[5] In 2020, she was a professor in its school of public health. Croughan became the provost and executive vice chancellor of University of California, Davis in July 2020. She succeeded Ralph J. Hexter.[6] Croughan is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[7]
