Maria Juliana popularly known by her stage name as Julie (born 28 June) is an Indian actress and former nurse who predominantly appears in Tamil television shows and films.[2] She made her debut in 2017 in the reality Bigg Boss 1 as an non-celebrity contestant and was later evicted from the show on day 42.[3] [4]
In 2022, she also participated in Bigg Boss Ultimate 1 which is the spin-off version of Bigg Boss Tamil and eventually emerged as the 4th runner-up of the series.[5]
Maria Juliana was born on 28 June. Before entering the media industry, Julie worked as a nurse in a government hospital after completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai.[6] In 2017, she made her appearance and raised her voice for the 2017 pro-jallikattu protests in Tamil Nadu.[7] However, after entering the media industry she left her nurse profession.[8] [9] [10]
In 2017, Julie participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 1 as a non celebrity contestant. Julie's attitude towards her co contestant Oviya Helen caused the fans of the show to talk critically about Julie's behaviour and attitude in the show.[11] She was evicted from the show on day 42, after having attracted widespread criticism for her behaviour during her participation.[12] [13]
In 2018, rumours went around social media stating that Julie was opposing actor Vijay in his film Sarkar. However the director of the film AR Murugadoss stated that Julie wasn't part of the production and cleared the rumour.[14] [15]
After her appearance in Bigg Boss Tamil 1, Julie was given several movie offers in Tamil such as Amman Thayee playing as a 'goddess' and Kolamavu Kokila playing as 'Anitha' where the film portrays about a true life incident.[16] She was also given lead roles in both of the films.[17] She also gave special appearances in films such as Mannar Vagaiyara (2018) and Naan Sirithaal (2020).[18]
In 2021, she appeared in the serial Thendral Vandhu Ennai Thodum marking her television acting debut.[19] She also followed up acting in the series Thavamai Thavamirundhu which aired on Star Vijay.[20] She also participated in the reality spin-off show Bigg Boss Ultimate season 1 and emerged as the 4th runner up.[21]
