Mohakhali (bn|মহাখালী) is a neighborhood of Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh.[1] [2] Mohakhali is one of the busiest places in Dhaka city. Mohakhali is bounded by Banani in the north and Tejgoan area[3] in the south while Gulshan and Niketan is in the east and Mohakhali DOHS to the west.[4] [5] Many important offices and institutions are based in Mohakhali.[6] Mohakhali Inter District Bus Terminal is one of themost important terminals of Dhaka city.[7] DGHS, NICRH, NIDCH, BCPS,[8] Institute ofHealth Technology, Dhaka, BRAC Centre, ICDDR,B and Titumir College are situated in Mohakhali. T & T satellite offices are situated on the west side of the korail slum.[9] Mohakhali Flyover, the first of its kind was opened to traffic in November 2004.[10] [11] Mohakhali General Market is situated beside the flyover bridge close to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.[12] [13]
Korail Slum is located in Mohakhali.[14] In December 2016, a fire destroyed over 500 shanty homes in the slum.[15] That year, the Saat Tola slum which is also located in the Mohakhali caught fire.[16] On 26 October 2023, a massive fire at Khawaja Tower occurred and 3 people died due to the incident.[17]
