Luray is a town in Hampton County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 127 at the 2010 census.[4]
Luray is located in west-central Hampton County at 32.8136°N -81.2394°W (32.813530, -81.239417).[5] U.S. Route 321 (Columbia Highway) passes through the town, leading north 10miles to Fairfax and south 4miles to Estill. South Carolina Highway 363 intersects US 321 at the northern border of Luray and heads east 9miles to Hampton, the county seat.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Luray has a total area of 2.7km2, all land.[4]
As of the census of 2000, there were 115 people, 45 households, and 27 families residing in the town. The population density was 107.1sp=usNaNsp=us. There were 52 housing units at an average density of 48.4sp=usNaNsp=us. The racial makeup of the town was 59.13% White, 33.91% African American, 0.87% Native American, 5.22% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.91% of the population.
There were 45 households, out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.8% were married couples living together, 20.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.39.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 30.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 109.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.
