It had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 22.[7] It later screened at True/False Film Festival on March 1, 2024.[8] It was released by A24 on September 6, 2024.[9]
Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com gave the film four out of four stars and wrote, "It may seem fragmented, elusive, or 'arty' to modern audiences who aren't into older movies and have no reference point for what they're watching. Hopefully not, though, because it's an often profound and touching documentary that engages your attention differently than movies usually do."[10]
