Lizzy Savetsky Explained

Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Savetsky (nee Blum) is an American social media influencer and activist known for her work to de-stigmatize pregnancy loss and empower Jewish people to be proud of their identity and religion.

Early life and education

Savetsky grew up in Forth Worth, Texas. She sang country music, participated in the Miss Teen Texas pageant, and was a cheerleader. She first visited Israel at age 18 on a Birthright Israel trip. She earned her undergraduate degree from New York University and her master's degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania.[1]

Career

In 2013, Savetsky began her Instagram account focusing on accessories, calling herself “excessoriesexpert".[2] She became the social media director for Seventh House Public Relations and the host of an IGTV series for Jewish matchmaking called “Bashert By Lizzy”.[3]

After she was announced as a cast member on Bravo's Real Housewives of New York, Savetsky said she received a "torrent of antisemitic attacks", and she withdrew from the cast.[4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] Lizzy Savetsky exited the reboot of The Real Housewives of New York City (RHONY) in November 2022, citing a surge of antisemitic attacks following the announcement of her casting. As an Orthodox Jewish woman, Savetsky expressed that her intention in joining the show was to represent her community and share her experiences. However, she shared on Instagram that the volume and nature of the antisemitic attacks led her to conclude that continuing on the show was not in the best interest of her and her family.

Bravo confirmed her departure, describing it as a mutual decision after thoughtful discussions.[13] Executive producer Andy Cohen told People "I can confirm that she is leaving, unfortunately." He also told People and Kveller that he had also been subjected to antisemitic trolling on the internet.[14]

Activism

Savetsky co-founded a social media movement, “Real Love, Real Loss”, to de-stigmatize pregnancy loss. She promoted positive messages about Judaism and Israel[15], to about 360,000 Instagram followers. Savetsky told Forbes that boycotting Israel negatively impacts the lives of Palestinians by causing them to lose jobs. After the October 7 Hamas-led attacks on Israel, Savetsky walked through New York City in "symbolic, blood-stained clothing" to raise awareness of hostages taken by Hamas from Israel.[16] Savetsky wore a corset styled after the Israeli flag to a charity gala, noting that the same corset was previously worn by an Arab Israeli winner of the Miss Israel pageant, Rana Raslan.[17]

Personal life

Savetsky is married to plastic surgeon, Ira Savetsky, and they have three children. Her husband's pro bono work treating victims of the October 7 attacks led to his receiving death threats.[18]
