List of reportedly haunted locations in Thailand explained
Thailand is a country located in Mainland Southeast Asia with a history of over 700 years and is mainly Buddhist (Theravada Buddhism). Many people, however; still believe in and respect superstition, the supernatural, miracles, magic, animism, amulets, and the like.
This is a list of locations in Thailand which are reported to be haunted or paranormal.
Bangkok Metropolitan Region

- Government House of Thailand: The office of the Cabinet of Thailand. It is rumored to have many ghosts and paranormal activities.[1]
- Phitsanulok Mansion: The official residence of the Prime Minister of Thailand. Like the neighboring government house, the mansion is rumored to be haunted by many ghosts.[2]
- Crime Suppression Division Jail Cell: Many prisoners claim to have seen a male ghost wearing a red t-shirt in the jail cells, especially by prisoners on their first night. This ghost is said to persuade others to hang themselves.[3]
- Lumphini Park: A 360-rai (57.6-hectares or 142-acres) park. It is said there is a haunted wood house inside. At night people often hear a shrill cry from inside the park. During the rallies of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) while the protesters stayed in the park, some demonstrators experienced a haunting and a volunteer security guard was possessed at dawn.[4]
- Ratchaprasong Intersection: A road intersection in Pathum Wan District, downtown Bangkok. It is both a popular tourist destination and a world-class shopping center. This place is rumored to be cursed or haunted, since it is the site of Prince Chudadhuj Dharadilok's palace. It is currently home to eight Hindu shrines, including Erawan Shrine.[5] [6]
- Soi Watcharapol: Soi (side-road branching off a major road) in Bang Khen District. A secluded location and said to have several haunted houses.[7]
- Soi Ramkhamhaeng 32: Ramkhamhaeng 32 Alley near Ramkhamhaeng University in Bang Kapi District. Like Soi Watcharapol, there used to be an abandoned house where there were rumors that a female maid had been murdered and her spirit still lingers here. In the 1990s, it was a hotspot that teenagers like to go ghost hunting. Currently, the house was demolished around 2008.[8]
- Wat Maha But: Buddhist temple in Suan Luang District. Location established the Mae Nak Phra Khanong shrine that is home to a famous Thai ghost legend.[9]
- Wat Samian Nari: A temple in Chatuchak District. There are many urban legends about women in black who appear here at night who call a taxi from Ratchadapisek Road to this temple, but then disappear mysteriously. It is believed that these two women are sisters named "Chulee Thipsuksri" and "Sulee Thipsuksri" who died when their train was broken into two pieces.[10] The most recent sighting happened on the dawn of July 15, 2016 at about 4:00 am.[11]
- Wat Don Cemetery: A cemetery of Wat Don Kuson in Sathon District. That was rumored to be haunted.[12]
- Talapat Suksa School: The abandoned school building is located on Phraeng Nara, Phra Nakhon District, in a popular tourist area and near a number of famous restaurants in the old city of Bangkok. It is named after the née of Princess Srinagarindra. It was once the theater of Prince Narathip Praphanphong. People who live in this neighborhood see the ghost of an actress.[13]
- Abbhantripaja's Palace: The palace of Princese Abbhantripaja, a daughter of King Rama V, that was deserted after her death. At night, witnesses hear a woman cry or the sound of swimming, or sometimes lights turning on-off by themselves. At present it is both a café, a library and part of Chartthaipattana Party headquarters.[14] [15]
- Sa Pathum Palace
A royal residence in the centre of shopping district close to Ratchaprasong Intersection, former residence of Queen Savang Vadhana, one of King Rama V's wifes and grandmother of King Rama VIII with King Rama IX, she is also considered to be the great-grandmother of King Rama X, the current Thai king. The palace is now official residence of Princess Sirindhorn, the younger sister of King Rama X. The princess said that in the past, a worker saw an old woman in a green dress and gold shoes appear while he was fishing and stopped him. At first he didn't know who she was. Until he saw a picture of Queen Savang Vadhana, he then knew that old woman was her who had died long ago. There are many others who believe that they have met or seen her, and there are also some supernatural activities that occur which are believed to be the actions of the queen. In addition, there is also a large portrait of Princess Sirindhorn painted by an Indonesian artist, when she first visited Indonesia in 1984. It hung on the wall next to the staircase. One female courtier said that she did not dare pass through this area at night alone because she was afraid of ghosts. Princess Sirindhorn said that once, she saw a woman dressed like her in a picture walk out of the picture and then return. She was afraid and immediately went into the bedroom to pray. It is possible that she may have blurred vision or misperception due to sleepiness.[16]
A historic memorial in the heart of "Bangkok's Champs-Élysées" Ratchadamnoen Avenue, especially on the north corner where Ratchadamnoen Avenue cuts across Dinso Road, where Satriwittaya School is currently located, the leading girls' school in Thailand. In the past, it was rumored to be a haunted place. Some said that at night the pedicab comes to pick up passenger and then that passenger suddenly disappears, or that the pedicab had been seen mysteriously vanishing. Currently, opposite the school, there is still an ancient wooden house that is more than 100 years old.[17]
- Wat Suthat: A temple built in the reign of King Rama I, it is known as royal temple of the first grade and is a popular tourist attraction. There is a story about a tall hungry ghost called Preta. However, this may have been the Giant Swing located in front of the temple, and the morning fog may have caused this sighting.[18]
- Wat Suwannaram: Temple built in the Ayutthaya period. It is located in Bangkok Noi District in Thonburi. It was the capital during the reign of King Taksin. During that time it was used in executions of prisoners of war, who were primarily Burmese soldiers. Recently, local people have seen Burmese ghosts haunting. According to rumor, there are Preta on the bell tower, a headless male ghost wearing chang kben, and a female ghost on the pier at midnight.[19] [20]
- Ratchadaphisek Road: A major road in Chatuchak District. Its curve, opposite to the Criminal Court, has a large banyan tree and spirit house, where car accidents often take place. It has been called the "Curve of Hundred Corpses".[21]
- Sathorn Unique Tower: Unfinished skyscraper from 1997 financial crisis, located in downtown Bangkok by the Chao Phraya River. Notable for its ghost stories. Its story was adapted into the 2017 film The Promise.[22]
- Thawi Watthana Deserted House: A deserted house located in Thawi Watthana District in suburb Bangkok. In 2015 seven teenagers went ghost hunting here. After backing out, they gradually died from accidents such as motorcycle crashes or a house fire until only two people were left alive in 2017. At each accident, there are witnesses claiming to see a mysterious woman with long hair wearing a white dress. A medium claimed that this is a vengeful spirit named "Dao" or "Deuan" that followed and killed these teenagers.[23]
- Bang Khae Shopping Mall: A shopping mall in the Bang Khae area in Thonburi. In November 2023, a young woman said she saw a man walking by disappear into a pole in a mall parking lot as she was about to park her car at around 04:00 pm. The mall has long been rumored to be haunted and is a common place for suicides. It is not revealed which mall it is, but it is believed to be Seacon Bangkae or The Mall Bangkhae.[24]
- Haunted House: A two-storey house in Soi Ram Intra 65 Yaek 2-18, is rumored to be haunted because in the past 10 years, 9 people have died here. The latest death was a deliver rider who killed his wife out of jealousy before hanging himself. Even though the neighbors had previously tried to ward off bad luck by adding the number 5 to the end of its house number, it was unsuccessful.[25]
- Mahidol University: One of the leading universities in Thailand located in Tambon Salaya, Amphoe Phutthamonthon, Nakhon Pathom province. This place was a funeral home during the reign of King Rama IV and King Rama V. There are now many shrines here. Many students have been thought to be possessed or haunted.[26]
- Thai Lemon Foods Factory: Lemon juice factory located in Tambon Nong Sam Wang, Amphoe Nong Suea, Pathum Thani province. Its CCTV captured a luminous floating head with gut female spirit called Krasue on the night of July 22, 2008 at about 11:30 pm. Locals insist that it looks like an old woman who lives alone in the neighborhood.[27]
- Wat Prasat
A temple in Tombon Bang Krang, Nonthaburi province, that has existed since the reign of King Prasat Thong of the medieval Ayutthaya period. Local chiefs confirm that the place is haunted. The temple is filled with many ancient sites, including the remains of a large Ta-khian tree over 40 meters long inhabited by Nang Takian.[28]
Central
- Ayutthaya Historical Park: The ancient capital of Thai history for over 400 years from the 14th to the 18th century. There are many rumors about cursed treasures and ghosts watching these treasures was called Pu Som Fao Sap. Today there are many abandoned places that are the source of these rumors, such as Wat Phra Sri Sanphet,[29] Wat Kra Sai, Tri Muk Pavilion, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Kudi Dao and others. Especially at Wat Kudi Dao, Prince Birabongse Bhanudej saw Pu Som Fao Sap in the form of a headless male ghost in December 1960.[30]
- Sermon Hall of Wat Ban Kae: Sermon hall of Wat Ban Kae in Amphoe Sawaeng Ha, Ang Thong province. It was built in 1969 but remains unfinished because all builders were haunted, as well as the monks and the villagers. Currently it is abandoned.[31] [32]
- Wat Khao Kaeo: Located in Tambon Ongkharak, Amphoe Pho Thong, Ang Thong province. In early August 2012, a nun saw a Preta at the temple as she was praying. The villagers, including the police, confirmed that they have been seen for many years.[33]
- Ang Thong Antique Bed: Antique wooden bed more than 100 years old of Wat Thanon, Tambon Phong Pheng, Amphoe Pa Mok, Ang Thong province. It ownership is unknown, but those who sleep or sit on it face many inexplicable things until dying.[34]
- Kanchanaburi Deep Jungle: Deep jungle in Kanchanaburi province along the border with Myanmar. The villagers who live here say that in this jungle there is a legendary fruit that transforms into a beautiful young women named Nariphon. It was searched by the popular TV show Destination Truth in 2011.
- Kaeng Krachan National Park: The largest national park of Thailand located in Phetchaburi province. It is on the border with Myanmar, contiguous with the Tanintharyi Nature Reserve. In the mid-2011, three Royal Thai Army helicopters crashed in only nine days, killing 17 people. An ethnic group Karen believe this is an unsuitable place according to the beliefs of Feng Shui, similar to the Bermuda Triangle.[35]
- Khuean Srinagarindra National Park
The national park extends to Srinagarind Dam, Kanchanaburi province. On 2 January 2024 during the New Year holiday, a young man rode a motorbike from Bangkok alone for a day trip. On the way back at dusk he saw a woman in white shirt and a green skirt standing behind the barrier alone on a curve surrounded with trees. He screamed in shock and believed she might be a tutelary. Both sides of the road were previously filled with spirit houses.[36]
Eastern
- Mathayom Taksin Rayong School: High school in Rayong City, Amphoe Mueang Rayong, Rayong province. Many students and janitors claim this school is haunted. This place used to be a prison in the past.[37]
- Mae Ram Phueng Beach: The beach is a famous tourist attraction of Rayong province. However, many drownings led it to be called "Haunted Beach" or "Man-eating Beach". Those who visit or stay here often experience hauntings.[38]
- Abandoned Scout Camp: Located in Rayong province founded in 1974. There was one scout drowned, and then there was the sight of his spirit. Today at the entrance there's a statue of a scout with a lot of sacrifice especially grenadine. The story of this place was told on radio and adapted into the horror film Black Full Moon in 2017.[39]
- Krasae Bon Cave: Cave in the rain forest in Tambon Krasae Bon, Amphoe Klaeng, Rayong province, it is about 500 meters from the nearest village. Locals often hear Thai music from within and see strange lights floating from the cave.[40]
- Ko Kham Noi: A small island near Ko Sichang, Chonburi province in the Gulf of Thailand. It is a graveyard of many nationalities and religions. In the past, locals called it "Ghost Island". It was considered a very haunted island. Once upon a time, teenagers came to hunt for ghosts and heard mysterious sounds and saw a ghost of a Muslim.[41]
- Saphan Bang Pakong: A bridge across Bang Pakong River, Amphoe Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao province, there are people who claim to meet a middle-aged woman or a woman in red, aged not over 30, beckoning them to jump into the river together. This point has had many people jump in to kill themselves. Local police said that since 1992, there have been more than 60 suicides.[42]
- Haunted Room: A rented room in Tambon Choeng Noen, Amphoe Mueang Rayong, Rayong province. There had been four deaths in this room, the last is a 77-year-old former local DJ. Before his death, he wrote a diary and a note on the wall stating "This room is full of ghosts, they bother me every day". Mo Pla, a famed exorcist described his experience at the place as "really intense".[43]
- Talat Nong Tamleung Intersection: Four-way intersection in Tambon Nong Tamleung, Amphoe Phan Thong, Chonburi province near Wat Nong Tamlueng. Around 1965, there was an accident between a worker truck and a diesel dump truck, causing the deaths of 10 people. Then, just a few days later, there was a car accident and two people died. The owner of a kopi tiam (traditional coffee shop) that operates there and many locals can be heard screaming for help at night. During the day, some farmers heard similar noises while taking their lunch breaks. Someone smelled a stench like the smell of corpses. The kopi tiam later had bad business, very different from the past, until it was eventually closed. Believed that this was due to the actions of the deceased spirits. Today, the intersection no longer exists and the kopi tiam has changed its operations a long time ago.[44]
Northern
- Chiang Mai University: The first public research university in northern Thailand founded in 1964. There are stories about ghosts, such as the seventh women dorm with the mysterious sound at night "Pok...Pok...Crued". Rumor says it is the sound of one student dragging herself over the stairs to get back to her room after being fatally assaulted.[45] This mysterious sound has been created as one part of the Sahamongkol Film International's horror film Haunted Universities in 2009.[46]
- Mae Usu Cave: The largest cave in Mae Moei National Park, Tak province. The indigenous S'gaw people, believe it is home to a fierce devil called Suea Saming, a half-human, half-tiger creature similar to a Skin-walker or a Werecat, that tries to lure people into its dwelling during a full moon by traditional Thai music.[47]
- Ladda Land: An abandoned botanical garden and amusement park that includes a townhouse. Since closing in the early 1980s is one of the most haunted places in Chiang Mai province. Its story was adapted into the GTH film Ladda Land in 2011. It is located near the 700th Anniversary Stadium.[48]
- Field of Ban Thung Hee: A field of Ban Thung Hee, Tambon Wang Sai Kham, Amphoe Wang Nuea, Lampang province. On December 9, 2017, one villager found strange and larger than usual human footprints with a length of 30 cm and a distance of up to 170 cm each. The villagers believe that they are the footprints of tutelary, locally known as Phra Chao Noke.[49]
Northeastern (Isan region)
- Kamchanod Forest: is on a small island cut off by small waterways near the village of Tambon Wang Tong, Amphoe Ban Dung, Udon Thani province, and its dense forest is reputed by most locals to be the underground kingdom of the mythical Phaya Naga and one place of its most famous ghost stories.[50]
- Ban Tha Tum: A village in Tambon Mu Mon, Amphoe Mueang Udon Thani, Udon Thani province. A 46-year-old man lived alone in a house. He was a man who was crazy due to drug addiction, so he often cried out loud at night. In early June 2024, he died about 3–4 days ago, his body was bloated and gave off a putrid odor. People soon learned that he had died. One neighbor said before his death, he cried out for his dead mother. She understand that he asked his mother to come and take him to live with her because he is dying. Horrifyingly, the voice of his pass away mother also answered amidst the terrifying sound of dogs howling all night.[51]
- Submafai Forest: A forestland in Thap Lan National Park, in mid-September 2017 a 73-year-old local woman went to collect mushrooms in the forest. She said that she was taken by a woman in green traditional Thai clothing to a house in the forest. She was well-groomed while her relatives searched for two days. Eventually, they found out that she had lost into the forest for two days, but her condition was still excellent despite the rain throughout.[52]
- Tamle Forest: A forestland in Amphoe Chum Phuang, Nakhon Ratchasima province, one young man was lost in the forest for five days in early September 2017. He claimed that he could find an exit by following a mysterious woman in green traditional Thai costume. Locals claim that the forest is haunted.[53]
- Rural villages in Buriram: Two villages in rural area of Amphoe Chamni, Buriram province. Two female villagers, one an 18-year-old teenager and another a 59-year-old woman, assert that they see flying cryptid, shaped like a big winged man in the night like Mothman or Ahool called Krahang in mid-July 2017. In particular, the 59-year-old woman said she it appeared in her dreams for a long time, and believed it came from a deserted house in the neighborhood that her family once lived in.[54]
- Phanom Rung Historical Park: A Khmer rock temple complex set on the rim of an extinct volcano in Buriram province, founded since the 10th century to dedicate to Shiva, one of the supreme gods of Hinduism. At night, it has been reported that people are exposed to the harmful tall hungry ghost Preta.
- Din Piang Cave: A cave on Phu Bo Bid in Tambon Kut Pong, Amphoe Mueang Loei, Loei province. In late September 2016, a strange footprint was discovered with only three toes. The locals believe that be the footprints of Phi kong koi, a hairy forest vampire with one leg and small shaped like a little boy.[55]
- Phu Kradueng National Park: Popular natural tourist attraction in Loei province. The mountaintop called Phu Kradueng has long been known for its beauty and has many viewpoints. There are rumors among tourists that many people have encountered ghosts here.[56] The most famous story is about a group of private university students who went trekking at Phu Kradueng. One of the students had ranted in the jungle was found lying and shaking on the ground while trekking. After he regained consciousness and was helped up by a ranger, he told his friends that he saw a giant figure making him fall and standing on his chest. When he returned home, he retold his misadventure to his sister. One day, his sister heard someone whisper that the student had to apologise to him. They promptly went to the temple to make an offering and showered with holy water to ward off any residual effects of the encounter. This matter was widely known from an interview with this group of students on the popular TV program At Ten on Channel 3 in mid-2004.[57]
Southern

- Lipe Island: Located in the Andaman Sea, Lipe is inhabited by the Chao-Le, an ethnic group nicknamed the "Gypsies of the Andaman Sea". The Chao-Le have animist beliefs and say their island is full of rowdy spirits which they call ha-too. Tourists also claim feeling the presence of invisible forces during their stays there. Residents are said to be able to appease these spirits with offerings of cupcakes and cold strawberry soft drinks.[58]
- Ko Hin Ngam: A small island in 51 islands of Tarutao National Park, 5.51NaN1 from Lipe Island. Its beach has black stones of different shapes with beautiful patterns, when touched by water, they become a beautiful lustre. It is a natural phenomenon found only in one place in Thailand. This island has a legend about the curse of Chaopho Tarutao, a tutelary. Whoever removes the stones from the island will encounter various disasters, making it impossible for them to live a normal life. There is only one way to fix it: that person must return it. Park officials say that many packages of stones are returned each year, some are sent from abroad. A shrine to Chaopho Tarutao was built on the island in 1981. It is said that in the past, there used to be a southern influential billionaire who took many stones to decorate his house. Soon he was tragically shot dead in the middle of the marketplace.[59]
- Wang Song Phi Nong Forest: A forestland in Tambon Phichit, Amphoe Na Mom, Songkhla province. In August 2017, a 38-year-old man was lost in this forest for seven days. He said he saw people searching for him, but when he called no one heard. A medium claimed that he was hidden by the spirit of his wife in the previous life.[60]
- Sarasin Bridge: The bridge between Phang Nga and Phuket provinces that saw the suicide of a young couple in 1973. Locals are rumored that on full moon nights, a pair of white rabbits with red glowing eyes appear on the bridge believed to be the souls of the couple.[61]
- Chumphon Railway Bridge: The railway bridge is part of the southern line in the area of Amphoe Pathio, Chumphon province. There are many deaths here; the locals called it the "Bridge 100 bodies". The story was broadcast on the popular paranormal TV program Khon Uad Phee in August 2013.[62]
- Khao Lak: Phang Nga's famous marine attraction affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, where hundreds died. And since then, the hotels in this zone became haunted.[63]
- Soi Atthakawee Sunthon (Grandma Speed - Wat Khok Now) Haunted alley near Wat Khok Now in Hat Yai city, Songkhla province. Locals believe it is the home of Grandma Speed's spirit, a fast spirit that chases after motorcycles.
- Wiang Sa Ancient City: The ancient city, which is protected by the Thai government, has an area of 267 farm. It prospered in 198 AD and fell during the early Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom. Misbehaving visitors are said to get lost in it.
- National Highway No. 44 (Southern Seaborn Road) This road cuts through Kanchanadit District, Mueang Surat Thani District, Phunphin District, Ban Na Doem District, Khian Sa District, Phra Saeng District, Surat Thani Province and Plai Phraya District, Ao Luek District, Krabi Province. The road was one of the Land Bridge projects of the Thai government, but the project was not successful. There are no lights along the way, making it a murder hotspot and dumping ground for corpses. There are ghosts haunting motorists, especially a girl in black.
- Tontok Waterfall: The waterfall is known as the most beautiful in Trang province, located in Palian District. In November 2023, two police teams raided a rainforest retreat near a waterfall to hunt down a local influential fugitive named Sia Paeng. For several days he had been on the run and the officers were unable to catch him. However, there are reports that the police were haunted by the ghost of a pregnant woman while resting in an abandoned hut near a waterfall. A 63-year-old local resident said she was a woman who was killed in 1990 after being strangled by a large python while tapping rubber. The hut in question was hers and was deserted after she died.[64]
