List of power stations in Pennsylvania explained

This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, sorted by type and name. In 2022, Pennsylvania had a total summer capacity of 49,066 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 239,261 GWh.[1] In 2023, the electrical energy generation mix was 59% natural gas, 31.9% nuclear, 5.4% coal, 1.4% wind, 0.8% hydroelectric, 0.7% biomass, 0.2% other gases, 0.2% solar and 0.4% other. Small-scale solar, which includes customer-owned photovoltaic panels, delivered an additional net 1,070 GWh of energy to the state's electrical grid in 2023. This was more than twice the 409 GWh (0.2%) of generation by Pennsylvania's utility-scale photovoltaic plants.

The generating mix in Pennsylvania has been shifting from coal to gas, as in other U.S. states. Extraction of the state's fossil-fuel resources for domestic and foreign export sale ranked among the highest in the nation during 2019.[2]
