See also: Romanization of Chinese in Taiwan. Tongyòng Pinyin was the standard of Chinese romanization of Taiwan between 2002 and 2008. Although the standard was shifted to Hànyǔ Pīnyīn from 1 January 2009, the change to signs and documents using Tongyòng Pinyin is not complete. There are still some signs using Tongyòng Pinyin on highways and roads.
