List of active Portuguese Navy ships explained

This is a list of active Portuguese Navy ships.^[1]

In total there are 36 military ships commissioned in the Navy. Portuguese Navy also operates 43 auxiliary military vessels, known as Unidade Auxiliar da Marinha (UAM).^[2]

Auxiliary vessels

The Portuguese Navy has dozens of small vessels, of which 41 are Navy Auxiliary Units. All of these vessels belong to the Maritime Authority System.

• 12 rescue crafts;^[8]
• 37 lifesaving rigid inflatable boats;^[9]
• 9 captaincy vessels;^[10]
• 35 patrol rigid inflatable boats;^[11]
• 20 other vessels, such as armed speedboats belonging to Portuguese Marine Corps and anti pollution boats.^{[12] [13]}
