Ligumia recta explained

Ligumia recta is a species of freshwater mussel, an aquatic bivalve mollusk in the family Unionidae, the river mussels. [1]

This species is found in eastern North America. It is native to the drainages of the Mississippi River, the drainages of the Great Lakes, and some Gulf Coast drainages.

The black sandshell can be up to 10 inches (25 cm) long, and is elongate and quadrate in shape. The shell is usually heavy, fairly thick, somewhat inflated and cylindrical.[2]
