Lespignan (in French pronounced as /lɛspiɲɑ̃/; Occitan (post 1500);: Lespinhan) is a commune in the Hérault département in the Occitanie region in southern France.

Excavations indicate human habitation of Lespignan dating to 4000 years ago.[2] During the 13th century, Lespignan was granted to Lambert de Thury, a companion of Simon de Montfort, as a part of the Albigensian Crusade. In 1379 King Charles V used his right of preemption to officially establish Lespignan as a community. In 1500, the village acquired its own lord through a treaty of joint sovereignty with King Charles V. The absence of a male heir led to successive changes in leadership.
