Leighton is a city in Mahaska County, Iowa, United States. The population was 158 in the 2020 census, an increase from 153 in the 2000 census.[2]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.1sqmi, all of it land.[3]
At the 2010 census there were 162 people, 65 households, and 48 families living in the city. The population density was 1620PD/sqmi. There were 65 housing units at an average density of 650/sqmi. The racial makeup of the city was 99.4% White and 0.6% from two or more races.[4] Of the 65 households, 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.3% were married couples living together, 1.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 26.2% were non-families. 24.6% of households were one person, and 12.3% were one person aged 65 or older.
